Regional Express Airlines (Rex) - Airline Information

Regional Express Airlines Pty. Ltd., known across Australia as Rex Airlines, is a regional carrier based in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. As Australia’s largest regional carrier, it flies passengers to 36 destinations across New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, North Queensland, and Tasmania on its fleet of 48 turboprop aircraft that seats between 33 to 36 passengers.

Operating under the slogan, “Our heart is in the country,” Rex Airlines flies from its primary base at the Adelaide airport, and its secondary hubs at the Melbourne Airport, Sydney Airport and Townsville Airport.

The regional carrier was founded in 2002, and launched operations in August of the same year. It operates of one of the world’s largest fleet of Swedish-made Saab 340 aircraft, and has added 30 more Saab planes from Hazelton Airlines and Kendell Airlines, two carriers it acquired in the course of operations.

Rex Airlines also operates a flight school, the Australian Airline Pilot Academy (AAPA) that it jointly established with the Civil Aviation Training Academy in 2007. The flight school was previously located at Victoria’s Mangalore Airport, but transferred to the Wagga Wagga Airport in 2009.

Apart from (AAPA), Rex Airlines own other subsidiary companies, which include Regional Express Holdings Limited (formerly Australiawide Airlines Ltd.), a holding company for Rex Airlines’s subsidiaries; Regional Express Pty. Ltd., which holds Rex Airlines assets and operates the airline’s business; Air Link Pty. Ltd. (Rex AirlinesJet), Rex Airlines aircraft charter service; Rex Airlines Freight & Charter Pty. Limited, and Rex Airlines Investment Holdings Pty. Ltd., in charge of hold investments and overseas investments.

The RexJet Executive Charter offers 1,500 aircraft, including helicopters, light planes, corporate jets, and Airbus A319s from its global inventory, for private individuals and groups who want to book charter flights for corporate travel, fly in/fly out mining operations, lightweight and bulk freight, government travel and state visits, as well as medical and disaster evacuations.
