Virgin Australia Velocity Bags 5 Major Awards

1st May 2014

Reaping awards seems like a long-held tradition to Virgin Australia, now the country's largest airline in terms of fleet size. Its frequent flyer program, Velocity, makes no distinction as well as it, too, is a frequent award winner in the industry.

Recently, the low-cost airline has reaffirmed its status as the country's most service-oriented carrier with the big wins during the 2014 Annual Freddie Awards. The awards, aka The Freddies, are given annually to deserving loyal programs of airlines based on votes earned for the previous year.

What makes this year's edition more special to Virgin Australia is the fact that they swept all the five major awards at stake, leaving most other airlines going home empty handed.

Velocity got the distinctive and the most coveted award of all, Program of the Year in the vast Middle East and Asia/Oceania region. It likewise bested others in the categories Best Promotion, Best Redemption Ability and Best Customer Service while the program's Platinum tier netted the Best Elite Program.

This year's edition attracted almost 3 million voters across the region. This year, the airline's Velocity value ranking improved significantly to 9.04 from the previous year's 8.75.

Virgin Australia was doing all it can during the voting period by inviting all loyal travelers and internet users to vote for Velocity, especially through email and online promotions.
