Qatar Airways Upgrades Service to Melbourne

3rd Apr 2014

The upgrade of Qatar Airways' long-haul once-daily service from Doha to Melbourne is going to take effect this week. The airline is currently using the smaller variant of the B777 family, the B777-200LR, for the particular route which can only seat a maximum of 440 passengers.

The new aircraft, however, will be configured to accommodate only up to 335 passengers in a two-class layout, retaining the original 42 seats in its business class. The daily flight QR904/905 using the new aircraft will commence on April 1, 2014.

The state-owned flag carrier serves the cities of Melbourne and Perth from its hub in Doha. With the airline's extensive route network, across Europe, Qatar Airways offers seamless connecting flights for passengers from Down Under to major points in Europe. Moreover, passengers will have the chance to earn Qantas points for their journey with Qatar Airways, as the airline is a member of Oneworld alliance.

The Qantas points earned through Qatar Airways flights though may not be that high to flash a wide smile. You may not even earn the usual 'cabin bonus' offered by Qantas if you fly on a business or first class with Red Roo.

In Qatar flights you won't be expecting too much from the number of points you may earn for the said flight whether you're flying on a business class or economy class. You would be earning more status credits, though.
