Jetstar Joins Tigerair Australia at Tullamarine Terminal 4

10th Nov 2015

The Melbourne Tullamarine Airport's Terminal 4 is quickly becoming populated as the second Australian carrier makes its home there. After Tigerair, Jetstar has also moved into the new terminal.

The new terminal features 36 automated check-in kiosks, 18 bag drop units, bigger departure lounges and more food and shopping alternatives.

Qantas Airlines subsidiary will have priority access to 12 gates at Tullamarine T4, 8 more than it had at Terminal 1. According to Jetstar, this will greatly improve its operational efficiency and reduce passenger bussing to the plane.

In a statement, Jetstar Australia and New Zealand chief exec David Hall said:

"We know that families and those heading off on holidays want a seamless and hassle free experience at the airport and that's exactly what this new terminal delivers. After 11 years, it's fair to say we've outgrown our existing home at Melbourne Airport and we're excited to offer customers a much faster and easier journey through our bright spacious new terminal."

Hall also added:

"We expect this will make it faster and easier for Jetstar customers to check in and drop off their bags, all but eliminating queues, This will free up our airport customer service team members to get out from behind counters and serve our customers who need some extra assistance through checkin."

According to Jetstar, a "vast majority" of its domestic flights will arrive and depart from the new terminal. As for the international and some domestic services (JQ1 to JQ399 in particular), the carrier will continue using Terminal 2 for those.

Jetstar customers will still be able to use the Qantas Club and Business Lounge in Terminal 1, but the airline warned that:

"There will be no boarding announcement or flight information screens at the lounge to alert you of any updates or changes to your flight."

Meanwhile, another Australian operator, Regional Express (Rex) is expected to join Jetstar and Tigerair at Tullamarine Airport Terminal 4 very soon.
